I am sitting in a bar with some friends. They talk about love and how much of a struggle it can be. The guy wants to be in a relationship. The girl doesn’t. He doesn’t understand. Love confuses him. The friends immediately give their opinions. But where do those opinions originate and why do they seem so narrow in comparison to the vastness of the deep human desire to love? My search for a deeper perspective led me to Erich Fromm. His thoughts on the issue are somewhat different to what you would normally consider love. My findings are presented in a book of illustrations that condense his thoughts down to a drawing. In that way my hope is to push the boundaries of our conceptions of love.
