Parent soil

There are still wartime children and contemporary witnesses in our families alive. This is the generation of our grandparents. It is our cultural responsibility to preserve their story for as long as they are still alive and able to tell us themselves. Today, we self-evidently enjoy the advantages of the democratic society. However, the time of the great dictators in Europe has not ended that long ago. In 1938 when the Second Wold War just started, my grandmother was born as a German in Romania. First being expelled as refugees from their homes and then after the war, the German minority was threatened by expropriation and abduction into forced labour camps. The fascistic military dictatorship was succeeded without a break by the socialistic regime of Nicolae Ceausescu.
