Alternatives - A value based design approach that delivers a biodegradable shoe concept
For thousands of years man has worn shoes to protect their feet. Shoes are essential. Nowadays shoes are usually produced under inhumane conditions in Asia. The materials exhibit toxic substances and the components of the shoes are sewn, bonded or welded together. Therefore recycling of used materials is not always possible. This design approach, based on social and environmental values, displays how shoes could be produced in a sustainable way and with a clear conscience in the future. Local production of selected and completely recyclable materials, as well as total separability of the components builds the basis of the concept. The result is a biodegradable shoe that responds to the functional, aesthetic and environmental needs of individuals.
