Nowadays a lot of young people call themselves a ‚DJ‘, especially within the electronic music scene. Only a few are successful enough to make a living out of their music and club performances. I have joined some of them on their “business trips” playing shows all over the world. One of them is DJ Roman Flügel from Frankfurt who provided the soundtrack for the masses at the Loveparade in the early 90s. Another is Ryan Elliot who relocated from Detroit to Berlin a few years ago. Today he is a resident at the Berlin club-insitution Berghain and travels the globe. The different sequences show that the performance at the club is just a split second of a DJ’s job. Barely getting enough sleep, spending hours on airplanes and in hotels is not something that comes into mind when thinking about being a professional ‚DJ‘.
